STAR MENU
Version 3.0
QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
---------------------
Esc - escape key in all menu screens will back up one screen / exit.
Mouse - If mouse & mouse driver are available, position mouse cursor
on appropriate item and press left mouse button; right mouse
button also avail. for some viewing and optional functions.
keys - the keys: display at the bottom of the screen will always show the
active keys for a given screen; when in the Star Menu main screen, the
up and down arrow keys (cursor movement keys), page up and page down
keys, keyboard keys A thru O (hotkeys), and the mouse (if present with
driver) are all active and can be used to select a program or command
to execute, or a sub-group to go to. NOTE: the Scroll Lock key found on
some keyboards should not be lit to ensure proper operation of the keys
within Star Menu.
Main Menu
---------
EXIT - exit to DOS
F1 - function key 1 = CONFIG (configure Star Menu video, colors, drivers, main
passwords, etc.)
F2 - function key 2 = SETUP (set up Top and Sub - Groups with programs, boot
files, commands, etc.)
F3 - function key 3 = INFO (information on Star Menu, how to register & Beyond
Software RFQ forms)
F4 - function key 4 = TOP MENU (move to top menu or group, useful when several
levels down in sub-groups)
F5 - function key 5 = LOAD GROUP (load new sub-group; if password level 2 in
use, user will be prompted to enter password)
F6 - function key 6 = SCREEN SAVER (immediately jump to screen saver; this
overrides the delay time set in SETUP, and if a password level 1 or greater
is in use, user will be prompted to enter password to return to MAIN Menu)
F7 - function key 7 = DOS SHELL (execute DOS Shell; Star Menu is still resident
in memory, type "EXIT" to return to Star Menu)
F8 - function key 8 = RUN/VIEW (very handy file run (launcher) or file view
options; when finished, you will return to the MAIN Menu)
F9 - function key 9 = DOS COMMAND LINE, allows execution of any valid DOS
command, after which you will return to the Star Menu Main Menu
CONFIG Menu
-----------
Video - select video mode, monochrome, color CGA, EGA or VGA etc.
Color - select foreground and background colors used by Star Menu
Color / Background - configure background colors
Color / Foreground - configure foreground colors
Color / eXit - return to Config menu
pRt - select printer type
Mouse - toggle mouse on / off
Fdrv - select default floppy drive
dAte - view and/or modify computer date
timE - view and/or modify computer time
Ss - set screen saver timeout (0 to 99 minutes, where 0=no screen saver used)
Passwd - enter main Star Menu password, used with screen saver and main system
options
Top - create, load, and change title of top group or menu
Top / Create - create new top group
Top / Load - load existing group to be used as top group
Top / Title - change the title (group name) for the default (loaded) group
Top / eXit - return to Config menu
Reboot - select reboot option for boot files; manual reboot using CTRL+ALT+DEL
(or hard RESET) or automatic reboot option using an external program
(such as public domain reboot.exe etc.) NOTE: this reboot option is
offered since many ram resident virus checking programs get very upset
with software which tries to reboot the computer; if using a ram-
resident virus checker use the manual reboot option. Also, some hard
disk caching programs must empty their caches/buffers before allowing
a reboot; use the manual reboot option if using these programs as well.
eXit - return to Star Menu main screen
SETUP Menu
----------
Add - add new program (file with .EXE, .COM or .BAT extension), new group,
new multi-line command [adds to end of menu item list automatically],
or "boot file" (AUTOEXEC.x or CONFIG.x)
Add / Pgm - add new program (file with .EXE, .COM or .BAT extension)
Add / Group - add new group (e.g. Utilities, DOS Commands, Games, Applications
etc.)
Add / Multi-cmd - add multi-line command (DOS batch file)
Add / eXit - return to Setup menu
Copy - Copy menu item, group, or multi-line command (for later editing
or easy modifying)
Copy / menu-Item - copy menu-Item
Copy / Group - copy group
Copy / Multi-cmd - copy multi-line command
Copy / eXit - return to Setup menu
Del - delete menu item (use menu item number to left of description)
Edit - edit group menu item(s), edit multi-line commands, copy multi-line
commands, select internal or external editor
Edit / menu-Item - edit menu item
Edit / Group - edit group
Edit / edit-Cmd - edit multi-line command (DOS batch file)
Edit / enViron - edit boot environment description (1st line of AUTOEXEC.x
boot file)
Edit / Editor - select editor type
Edit / Editor / Internal - select internal Star Menu line editor to be used
when editing & creating multi-line commands
Edit / Editor / External - select external text editor or word processor to be
used when editing & creating multi-line commands
Edit / Editor / eXit - return to Edit menu
Edit / eXit - return to Setup menu
Ins - insert new program (file with .EXE, .COM or .BAT extension), insert
new group, or insert new multi-line command [insert at menu item number
specified]
Ins / Pgm - add new program (file with .EXE, .COM or .BAT extension)
Ins / Group - add new group (e.g. Utilities, DOS Commands, Games,
Applications etc.)
Ins / Multi-cmd - add multi-line command (DOS batch file)
Ins / eXit - return to Setup menu
Move - move menu item to different position
Sort - sort menu items by description, type, path, or filename

Create - create new group(s) or multi-line command(s)
